Nebraska DOT Drug Testing for CDL Drivers and Employers
Nebraska DOT drug testing applies to covered commercial drivers and
employers subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration drug
and alcohol testing requirements. Federal testing obligations may
apply whether a driver operates primarily within Nebraska or regularly
travels across state lines.
A DOT drug or alcohol test is not the same as an ordinary workplace
screening. A federally regulated test must be ordered under the
correct DOT authority, registered for the appropriate testing reason,
completed using the required procedures, and documented properly. A
driver can visit a clinic and complete a drug test that does not
satisfy the employer’s FMCSA obligation if the order was entered as a
non-DOT test or assigned the wrong testing reason.
CDL Inquiry helps drivers and employers throughout Nebraska, including
Omaha, Lincoln, Bellevue, Grand Island, Kearney, Fremont, Hastings,
Norfolk, Columbus, North Platte, Papillion, La Vista, Scottsbluff,
South Sioux City, Beatrice, Lexington, Alliance, Gering, Blair, York,
McCook, Seward, Crete, Nebraska City, Sidney, Plattsmouth, Schuyler,
Chadron, Holdrege, and surrounding Nebraska communities.
Collection-site availability can vary significantly throughout the
state. Some facilities perform DOT drug collections but do not provide
DOT alcohol testing. Others may require appointments, maintain limited
occupational testing hours, or stop accepting collections before the
building’s posted closing time. Return-to-duty and follow-up testing
may also require a facility that can accommodate the applicable
collection procedures.
Nebraska’s large rural areas and long travel distances make advance
coordination especially important. A collection site that appears
close on a map may not offer the exact service the driver needs. A
driver operating near North Platte, Scottsbluff, Alliance, Chadron,
McCook, Sidney, or another smaller community may need to travel farther
than expected to reach a suitable facility.
CDL Inquiry coordinates pre-employment, random, post-accident,
reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing. We also
administer an affordable annual consortium program for Nebraska
owner-operators, one-driver businesses, and qualifying employers that
need assistance managing random drug and alcohol testing participation.
Register the DOT test before visiting the collection site.
A nearby clinic, urgent-care center, laboratory, or occupational
health facility may provide several workplace testing services, but
that does not guarantee it can complete the precise FMCSA-regulated
service required. Contact CDL Inquiry first so the testing reason,
order registration, collection-site capability, and driver
instructions can be confirmed before the driver travels.
